Yesterday marked the end of a busy summer of ministry. Despite the impending cold and snow, we are glad the summer is through! Our first big event was Jr. High Breakaway. For this, we took the youth up to Lac La Biche to camp for 3 days. We enjoyed sunny weather, which allowed us to soak up a lot of rays and enjoy the lake to the fullest. We went swimming, canoeing, fishing, hiking and also played games. I gave devotions on Colossians which generated some good discussion. We enjoyed having worship lead by a good friend of ours. On our last day, we put in a long, hot day of labour at a Bible camp where we picked rocks and roots out of a dirt field and painted a staircase.
Prior to Breakaway, Jen and I were able to get away by ourselves to Lac La Biche for our own camping trip in order to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary. It poured buckets the first night and so we found a really nice, but inexpensive hotel to stay in. The next day the sun was out and so we continued with our original camping plan.
Jim, our senior pastor, was away on vacation from the end of July into August and so I had the privilege of preaching on August 2. My message was on Jeremiah 7 on the topic of spiritual reformation. Sorry there is no audio of this sermon.
Last week was probably the busiest week of the summer as the church ran our annual soccer camp. We had about 65 kids come out each day. We are thankful for the good weather throughout the week, plenty of help from volunteers and that the camp went without any major hiccups. On the Sunday following soccer camp we invited families from the camp to attend church where we recapped the events of the week through a slideshow, devotion summary and puppet skit. After the service we had a hot dog lunch.
Soon ministry for the fall will begin. Iām thankful that events are planned and I am excited about taking the youth through the books of Zechariah and Philippians. Jen and I are also looking forward to our San Francisco getaway during the last week of September.
