JR Vassar reflects on what it means for a pastor to be a disciple. I found this post both challenging and encouraging…
I think it is possible to be a good pastor of a good church while not being a very good disciple of Jesus. You can lead your staff to accomplish tasks, preach good gospel centered sermons, lead your people in corporate worship and prayer and communion, counsel people, and manage a budget all the while not really giving careful attention to obey all that Jesus commanded us… But, to pastor with authenticity we need to focus first and foremost of being Jesus’ disciples. Our first call is to hear him and obey him.
